For the past 10 years, soft sculpture artist Andrea Soltis-Coonick has been creating unique, refreshing, feel-good accessories for enhancing the home environment. Products are produced from her cozy little studio in Colorado.
As a little girl, Andrea had an extreme fondness for candy. Blessed with a child's wildest dream come true, Andrea's mom would purchase candy in bulk and had it readily available. Andrea’s nickname throughout childhood was Candy Andi. Always envisioning her creations as eye candy, the company name Candi Andi was born.
As a fifth generation seamstress with a strong passion for fabrics, there was never a question that Andrea would cut out a career in textile art. From her earliest teachings by her grandmother and mother to her education from the Colorado Institute of Art, all of Andrea’s talents were carried into the world of apparel and the many uses of patterns, fabrics and accessories.
Andrea discovered her passionate focus through interior design and the need for design elements for a cheerful yet relaxing home habitat. In discussing her creations Andrea says, "I began to experiment with unusual shapes, colors and textures. With my natural eye for color, flow and balance, along with my passion for textiles, I began producing an amazing mix of soft sculpture pillows. I feel a colorful and cozy environment is the key to living well.”
Andrea’s decorative pillows are a form of soft sculpture. Each pillow is handcrafted by Andrea and formed through her own passions, visions, and imagination. The fabrics are colorful velvets, raw silks and rayon-silk brocades. Embellishments sometimes include carefully chosen fringe, cording, and custom hand-bead embroidery. Hand stuffed forms accommodate the unusual, whimsical shapes and styles. “They are bright, colorful soft sculpture pillows that make for happy spaces. When something's handmade and there is passion, energy and attention paid to each piece, you get originality and quality you can't find in mass-produced products,” stated Andrea.
Andrea's desirable soft sculpture products create high interest. First selling at local craft shows in the Seattle area, Candi Andi creations have now spread to retail locations across 45 states and into Europe.
Having empathy for the struggles and tribulations of ‘stay at home’ and single moms, Andrea exclusively hires ‘stay at home’ and single moms as her seamstresses. Candi Andi also strives for zero waste and maintaining a ‘green’ environment. When possible, we ship orders in reused/recycled boxes, unused fabric is donated to non-profit sewing circles, and any recyclable products are recycled via Allied Waste of Denver.
